Match the Cladding Profile to Your Market

Cladding profiles follow regional building habits, and the machine must match the profile your market installs:

  • Corrugated cladding — the most universal profile, used worldwide for sheds, factories and agricultural buildings. Low cost and simple to install.
  • Trapezoidal cladding — stiffer profile with trapezoidal ribs, popular in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for industrial walls.
  • Box rib / panel cladding — flat-face panels with hidden or exposed ribs, used for commercial facades where appearance matters.
  • Insulated panel combination — cladding profiles designed to work with sandwich panel roofs or walls (see Section 4).

Check which profile your customers specify, then choose the roller set accordingly. A machine with an exchangeable roller set can produce two profile families, but a fixed-profile machine is cheaper and runs faster for one dominant profile.

Thicker material (0.5-0.8 mm) suits trapezoidal and box-rib profiles for industrial walls; thinner material (0.3-0.5 mm) suits corrugated cladding for lighter buildings.

Tell the manufacturer your coil width and thickness range, because the forming roller design and motor power depend on both. A machine built for 0.3-0.5 mm will struggle with 0.8 mm stock, and vice versa.

Single-Skin vs Insulated Cladding Lines

There are two production routes for wall systems:

  • Single-skin cladding lines — produce the outer metal profile only. Cheaper and simpler; the insulation is added on site.
  • Double-layer or sandwich-compatible lines — produce cladding that pairs with sandwich panel systems, or combine two profiles on one machine (for example double-layer wall cladding machines that switch between two profiles without changing the tooling).

If your customers buy complete wall systems, consider a double-layer wall cladding machine so you can offer two profiles from one machine and one factory floor.

Line Configuration: Decoiler, Rollers, Cutting and Stacking

A complete wall cladding roll forming line works in one continuous flow:

  1. Decoiling — manual or hydraulic decoiler holds the coil and feeds the leveler.
  2. Leveling — flattens the strip so the panel comes out straight and ripple-free.
  3. Roll forming — the strip passes through 10-20 forming stations and is bent into the cladding cross-section.
  4. Cutting — hydraulic cutter or flying shear cuts panels to length, with the length set from the PLC.
  5. Stacking — finished panels are stacked for bundling (automatic stacker optional).

For profiles with fastener holes, an in-line punching unit can be added so panels arrive pre-drilled. This is common for cladding profiles that use exposed fasteners.

Speed, Precision and Roller Quality

Typical forming speed is 8-15 m/min for wall cladding, with high-speed versions up to 25 m/min for corrugated profiles. Look for Cr12 rollers on 45# steel shafts, hardened and chrome-plated for long service life — roller quality is what keeps the profile dimension consistent over thousands of metres.

Precision matters most on box-rib and panel profiles, where small roller wear shows as visible lines on the flat face. Test the machine with your own coil before accepting delivery, and ask for the machinery test report.
